THE GAME JAM HAS STARTED, GO!
Here were the results of the random teams!
During the weekend of February 18th to the 20th
For those new to the spin, a Game Jam is a community project to rapidly create video game designs and inject new ideas into the industry. As usual, teams of four or less will have three days to create a game based on a given theme.
To help with a lot of the problems from last time, we are going to be doing things a little differently. Here are some changes:
+ The themes for this jam will be decided by a random generator made up of suggested words from the Newgrounds community! Each team will be given a random output to create a game about. If you want to contribute some word suggestions, comment on this news post with the following format:
noun + verb(ing) + adjective + noun
Examples of what this could produce would be Foxes Eating Watery Cakes, or Girls Shooting Wicken Textbooks.
This awesome concept was brought upon by Gaiel-Gamer!
+ The community should now be able to form their own teams, with no more than four people. Use any combination of programmers, artists, musicians, writers, ect, as long as it doesn't exceed four people.
Post your finalized teams in this thread.
+ If you are unable to find your own team, you will still be able to be placed into random teams. To those who are new to the process, you apply as a certain position and we will use a random generator to place people into teams of four, with one programmer, two artists, and a "other." To keep things cleaner this time, send me a PM with the following information:
Subject Line: the position applying for (programmer, artist, musician, other.)
Version of Flash / Email Address (and other contact preferences)
Link to one example of work.
Make sure to title the subject line with the position you want to apply for, because otherwise it will get lost among all the others!
+ Because of the repeat offenders who drop out at the last minute without notice, or those who decide to blow off their teams, I have composed a blacklist made up of anonymous suggestions from the last two game jams. I will not post this list to protect humility, and those on the blacklist are still qualified to participate, but they will only be paired up with other blacklisted users.
+ On Friday morning, at 12:00am, sign-ups will cease and the themes/teams will be announced. You will then have until Sunday night at 11:59pm to work on a game based on your given theme with your teammates.
+ Finished games should be submitted to the portal and a link should be given on a thread presented on Friday.
+ Last time we had a special guest judge, Edmund McMillen, co-creator of Meat Boy, and we will most likely do the same for this competition.
+ Art, animation, and engines must be made from scratch over the weekend. Don't just copy the same engine/art from another game you've made!
+ Actionscript libraries, such as Flixel and FlashPunk, are OK!
+ Ads, Newgrounds API, and non-Newgrounds API are OK!
+ Only the people in your teams may contribute.
+ If you don't have a musician in your team, use music from the audio portal!
That's it! Sign-up soon, and look forward to this weekend!
And enjoy this collage of games from the last jam.
